Migrant charged with sexual assault of kid after being launched

A Guatemalan man illegally residing in the US was arrested by immigration authorities final month on suspicion of sexually assaulting a baby in Rhode Island after he was launched from native custody.

Felix Meletz Guarcas, 45, was launched from the Rhode Island Division of Corrections regardless of an immigration detainer request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to carry him till federal authorities might take him into custody, ICE stated.

It is not identified when Meletz Guarcas illegally entered the U.S., ICE stated. 

On Feb. 16, 2022, he was arrested by the Pawtucket Police Division in Rhode Island for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony assault of law enforcement officials and different officers. He was convicted and sentenced to 6 months of probation.

On Nov. 20, Meletz Guarcas was arrested once more and charged with first-degree sexual assault on a baby and 5 counts of second-degree sexual assault on a baby, ICE stated. 

The incident occurred on Sept. 3, authorities stated.
